A Newcastle payslip generatoris a tool that produces a payslip for employees working in Newcastle and the wider Hunter Region, formatted to match what the Fair Work Act 2009 requires nationally. Newcastle doesn't have its own separate payslip law; the same national rules apply here as in Sydney or Melbourne, but the region's mix of port and mining shift work, hospitality, health, and construction means most local payslips carry loadings and penalty rates that a plain hourly-rate template doesn't handle correctly.
OfficeDraft produces a payslip with the base rate, loading, penalty rates, tax and superannuation itemised as separate lines, the way the Fair Work Regulations require. Free to preview. PDF download from $4.99. No account needed.

Required Payslip Information in Australia
Fair Work Regulations 2009 regulation 3.46 sets out the fields a payslip must contain. This applies to every Newcastle employer covered by the national system, which is almost all of them, regardless of industry or business size.
Fair Work Payslip Requirements for Newcastle Employers
Under section 536 of the Fair Work Act 2009, a payslip must reach the employee within one working day of payment. It can be printed or emailed; there is no requirement to hand over a paper copy. The obligation sits with the employer, not with a payroll provider or bookkeeper, even if the business outsources the actual pay run.
Shift workers at Newcastle port terminals and Hunter Valley coal operations are usually paid under enterprise agreements or the Black Coal Mining Industry Award, with shift allowances and rostered overtime that need to be itemised separately from the base rate.
Nurses and support staff at John Hunter Hospital and Hunter New England Local Health District facilities, along with private aged care providers across Newcastle, are usually covered by the Nurses Award or the Aged Care Award, both of which set out weekend and night shift penalties.
Cafés and bars around Darby Street, Honeysuckle and the harbourfront, plus retail stores at Kotara and Charlestown, run heavily on casual staff, which makes correctly itemising the 25% casual loading and weekend penalties the most common payroll error to fix.
Newcastle's residential building activity and Hunter Valley infrastructure projects employ a mix of PAYG employees and ABN subcontractors. Employees get a standard payslip; subcontractors invoice, though many still want an income record for finance applications.
NSW Payroll Tax and Newcastle Employers
NSW payroll tax is separate from PAYG withholding and doesn't appear on an individual employee's payslip. It's a state tax on an employer's total wage bill, administered by Revenue NSW. Newcastle businesses with total Australian wages above the current NSW threshold need to register and lodge returns, but this obligation runs between the employer and Revenue NSW, not through the payslip itself.
How to Create a Payslip in Newcastle
Example Newcastle Payslip
A casual hospitality worker on Darby Street works 18 ordinary hours and 6 Saturday hours in a week, at a base rate of $24.38 per hour.

Figures are indicative. PAYG withholding depends on the employee's tax file declaration and pay frequency, and should always be checked against the current ATO tax tables.
Common Employer Mistakes on Newcastle Payslips
Blending the casual rate into one number
Showing a single '$31.25/hr casual rate' instead of the $25.00 base plus $6.25 loading breaks the itemisation rule in Fair Work Regulations 2009 regulation 3.46, even if the total is correct.
Leaving the pay period off the payslip
A payment date alone is not enough. The payslip must show the start and end date of the period the pay covers, which matters when hours or rates change mid-period.
Calculating super on the base rate only
Superannuation guarantee is calculated on ordinary time earnings, which includes the casual loading. Leaving the loading out of the super base underpays super without the employer necessarily noticing.
Applying shift penalties to the wrong base
Weekend and public holiday penalties under most awards apply to the base hourly rate, not to the already-loaded casual rate. Applying the penalty to the loaded rate overpays or underpays depending on the award and how the error runs.
Using an outdated superannuation fund name
Several funds have merged or rebranded in recent years. A payslip showing an old fund name can cause contribution matching issues at the ATO end even when the money reaches the right account.
