Victorian Payslip Requirements Under Fair Work Law
In Victoria, payslip obligations are governed by the Fair Work Act 2009 and Fair Work Regulations 2009. Almost all Victorian employers are covered by the national workplace relations system, meaning they must issue a payslip to every employee within one working day of each pay day.
This obligation applies to full-time, part-time, casual, and fixed-term employees. Non-compliance can result in civil penalties of up to $16,500 per contravention for an individual employer.
Victoria also has state-specific entitlements — most notably under the Long Service Leave Act 2018 (Vic) — that go beyond the national Fair Work framework. OfficeDraft's Victoria payslip generator includes dedicated fields for these VIC-specific requirements so your payslips are structured correctly from day one.

Long Service Leave in Victoria — Payslip Reporting Rules
Victoria operates under its own long service leave legislation — the Long Service Leave Act 2018 (Vic) — which is more generous than the national framework and applies to most Victorian employees regardless of their Award.
Under this Act, employees accrue long service leave at a rate of 1/60th of their period of continuous employment with the same employer. This means after 7 years of continuous service, an employee is entitled to approximately 6.1 weeks of long service leave — and the entitlement can be taken (or paid out on termination) from that point.
When an employee takes long service leave or receives a long service leave payout, the payment must be clearly identified on their payslip as a separate line item — distinct from ordinary time earnings, annual leave, and other entitlements.

Victoria Public Holidays 2026 — Payslip & Payroll Impact
When Victorian employees work on public holidays, employers must pay penalty rates as set by the employee's Modern Award or Enterprise Agreement. The standard rate is double time and a half (250%) of the ordinary rate for most Awards. Note that Melbourne Cup Day is a unique Victorian public holiday that applies only to the Melbourne metropolitan area — regional Victorian employees may not be entitled to it unless their Award specifies otherwise. All public holiday payments must appear as a separate line item on the payslip.
⚠️ Public holiday dates are subject to official Victorian Government proclamations. Always verify at vic.gov.au/victorian-public-holidays ↗

Victoria Payslip Generator — Common Questions
Yes. All Victorian employers covered under the national workplace relations system must provide a payslip within one working day of each pay day under the Fair Work Act 2009. This applies to full-time, part-time, casual, and fixed-term employees. Failure to comply can result in penalties of up to $16,500 per contravention.
A compliant Victoria payslip must include: employer name and ABN, employee name and ID, pay period dates, payment date, gross pay, net pay, PAYG tax withheld, superannuation contributions and fund name, and any loadings, allowances, or penalty rates. If long service leave is being taken or paid out, it must also appear as a line item.
The national minimum wage (which applies to Victorian employees not covered by a higher Modern Award or Enterprise Agreement) is $24.10 per hour or $915.90 per 38-hour week before tax from 1 July 2025. Many Victorian workers are covered by industry-specific Modern Awards — always verify the relevant Award at fairwork.gov.au.
Under the Long Service Leave Act 2018 (Vic), employees accrue long service leave at a rate of 1/60th of their period of continuous employment after 7 years of service. When an employee takes or is paid out long service leave, the payment must appear as a clearly labelled separate line item on the payslip.
Yes. Casual employees in Victoria must receive payslips just as permanent employees do. The payslip should clearly show the casual loading (typically 25% above the base rate) as a separate line item so the employee can verify their entitlement.
When an employee works on a Victorian public holiday, they are generally entitled to penalty rates under their Award — typically double time or double time and a half. Melbourne Cup Day is a uniquely Victorian public holiday that applies to the Melbourne metropolitan area. Any public holiday loading must appear as a separate line item on the payslip.
Yes — this is one of the most common use cases. Victorian small business owners, sole traders, startups, and HR teams use OfficeDraft to generate Fair Work-compliant payslips without expensive payroll software. VIC-specific fields including long service leave and Melbourne Cup Day are built in.
