Company Details

This warehouse payslip generator builds a Fair Work-compliant payslip for pickers, packers, forklift operators, warehouse supervisors, and logistics and distribution staff across Australia. Warehouse and logistics payroll is harder to get right than a standard office payslip because it usually involves several pay components at once: a base classification rate, overtime at more than one multiplier, shift loading for afternoon or night rosters, and allowances for forklift licences, cold storage work, or leading hand duties.

OfficeDraft calculates each of these components and lists them as separate lines on the payslip, which is what the Fair Work Regulations require. Free to preview. PDF download from $4.99. No account needed.

What a Warehouse or Logistics Payslip Must Show

Fair Work Regulations 2009 regulation 3.46 sets the minimum fields for every payslip in Australia. Warehouse and logistics payslips need to go further than the bare minimum, because overtime, shift loading and allowances only satisfy the rules if they are itemised, not folded into a single hourly figure.

📦Picker / packer

Usually a Storage Services and Wholesale Award Level 2 or 3 classification, paid hourly with casual loading if not permanent, plus any applicable shift loading for afternoon or night rosters.

🚜Forklift operator

Base classification rate plus a forklift licence allowance, which is a fixed dollar amount per shift or per hour depending on the site agreement, shown as a separate allowance line.

🧊Cold storage / freezer staff

Entitled to a cold storage allowance on top of the base rate for time spent working in temperature-controlled areas, in addition to any shift loading that applies to the roster.

🚚Delivery driver / logistics staff

Typically covered by the Road Transport and Distribution Award rather than the Storage Services Award, with different overtime triggers and a vehicle or travel allowance where relevant.

🧑‍💼Leading hand / shift supervisor

Receives a leading hand allowance on top of the base classification rate for taking responsibility for a shift or team, which must be itemised separately from the base pay.

🏭Warehouse casual / agency staff

Paid the base rate plus 25% casual loading as a minimum, with shift loading and overtime calculated on the loaded rate rather than the bare base rate.

Warehouse Employee Payroll Example

A permanent full-time picker/packer at Level 3 under the Storage Services and Wholesale Award 2020 works a standard 38-hour week at a base rate of $26.20 per hour, with no overtime or shift loading that week.

Weekly gross pay — Level 3 warehouse employee
38 hrs × $26.20/hr$995.60
Gross pay$995.60
Super — 11.5% on OTE$114.49

Figures are indicative and based on a sample classification rate. Always confirm the current rate for the exact classification level against the Fair Work Pay and Conditions Tool.

Logistics Payroll Example

A delivery driver under the Road Transport and Distribution Award 2020 works 40 hours in a week at a base rate of $27.10 per hour, including 2 hours of overtime at 150%, plus a $0.95 per kilometre vehicle allowance for 220 km of driving.

Weekly gross pay — logistics driver
38 ordinary hrs × $27.10$1,029.80
2 overtime hrs × $27.10 × 1.5$81.30
Vehicle allowance: 220 km × $0.95$209.00
Gross pay$1,320.10
Super — 11.5% on OTE (excludes vehicle allowance)$127.71

A per-kilometre vehicle allowance that reimburses actual expenses is generally not part of ordinary time earnings for super purposes. Check the ATO's guidance on allowances if you are unsure whether a specific allowance counts toward the super base.

Overtime Calculation Example

Under most warehouse awards, overtime is paid at a higher multiplier for the first stretch of extra hours, then a further multiplier after that. The following example shows a Level 3 warehouse employee who works 4 hours of overtime on a weekday: the first 2 hours at time and a half, the remaining 2 hours at double time.

Overtime breakdown
Base hourly rate$26.20/hr (Storage Services Award, Level 3)
Ordinary hours worked38 hrs × $26.20 = $995.60
Overtime — first 2 hours at 150%2 hrs × $26.20 × 1.5 = $78.60
Overtime — remaining 2 hours at 200%2 hrs × $26.20 × 2.0 = $104.80
Gross pay (ordinary + overtime)$995.60 + $78.60 + $104.80 = $1,179.00
The overtime trigger point (after how many ordinary hours overtime starts) and the multiplier used both depend on the specific award, classification, and whether the overtime falls on a weekday, Saturday, Sunday, or public holiday. Confirm the exact rule for your classification using the Fair Work Pay and Conditions Tool.

Shift Loading Example

Warehouse and distribution centres that run afternoon or night shifts pay a shift loading on top of the base rate. The following example shows a night shift worker on a 30% loading, an amount common for permanent night shift rosters under the Storage Services and Wholesale Award, though the exact percentage depends on the shift pattern and the applicable award or agreement.

Night shift loading breakdown
Base hourly rate$26.20/hr
Night shift loading (30%)$26.20 × 0.30 = $7.86/hr loading
Loaded night shift rate$26.20 + $7.86 = $34.06/hr
Night shift, 8 hours8 hrs × $34.06 = $272.48
Payslip lines requiredBase pay ($209.60) and shift loading ($62.88) shown separately, not blended

A payslip that shows only "8 hrs × $34.06" without separating the base pay from the shift loading is not itemised correctly, even though the total dollar figure is correct.

Allowance Example

Allowances compensate for a specific skill, condition, or responsibility, and must be shown as separate dollar lines rather than built into the base or loaded hourly rate. Typical warehouse and logistics allowances include:

Common allowances
Forklift licence allowance$3.29 per hour while operating, or a flat per-shift amount under some agreements
Cold storage allowanceApproximately $2.50–$3.50 per hour for freezer or cool room work, site and award dependent
Leading hand allowanceA fixed weekly or per-shift amount, commonly 5–10% above the base classification rate
Meal allowanceA flat dollar amount, typically $16–$20, triggered once overtime passes a set number of hours

Allowance amounts are indicative examples, not fixed award figures. Confirm the exact rate against the current award or enterprise agreement that applies to the site.

Fair Work Payslip Requirements for Warehouse and Logistics Employers

Under section 536 of the Fair Work Act 2009, every employer must give employees a payslip within one working day of payment. The National Employment Standards set the minimum entitlements underneath the award, including maximum weekly hours and the right to request flexible working arrangements, both of which are relevant to rostered warehouse shift work.

Casual warehouse and logistics staff are entitled to the same payslip fields as permanent staff, plus the 25% casual loading itemised separately. Details on how casual entitlements work more broadly are covered in the Fair Work Ombudsman's casual employee fact sheet.

Common Payroll Mistakes in Warehouse and Logistics

Blending overtime into the ordinary hourly rate

Overtime must be shown at its own multiplier and hours, not averaged into a single hourly figure across the whole shift. A blended rate makes it impossible to check whether the correct overtime multiplier was applied.

Applying casual loading after overtime instead of before

For casual employees, overtime is generally calculated on the loaded rate, which already includes the 25% casual loading. Calculating overtime on the bare base rate and adding loading afterwards produces a different, usually lower, figure.

Leaving allowances out of gross pay

Forklift, cold storage and leading hand allowances are part of gross pay and must be included in the gross figure and shown as separate lines, not treated as a reimbursement outside the payslip.

Calculating super on base pay only

Superannuation guarantee applies to ordinary time earnings, which includes casual loading and most allowances that are paid for ordinary hours. Leaving loadings and allowances out of the super base underpays super without it being obvious on the payslip.

Using the wrong award for logistics versus warehouse staff

Warehouse and distribution centre staff usually sit under the Storage Services and Wholesale Award, while truck drivers and freight staff usually sit under the Road Transport and Distribution Award. Applying the wrong award's rates and overtime rules produces an incorrect payslip even if the arithmetic is right.

Frequently Asked Questions — Warehouse & Logistics Payslip Generator

Is this warehouse payslip generator free to use?
Yes. You can enter employer and employee details, hours, rate, overtime, shift loading and allowances, then preview the payslip at no cost. Downloading the finished PDF costs from $4.99, with no subscription and no account required for a single payslip.
What award applies to warehouse workers in Australia?
Most warehouse and distribution centre staff are covered by the Storage Services and Wholesale Award 2020, which sets base rates, casual loading, overtime, and shift allowances by classification level. Truck drivers and freight staff usually sit under the Road Transport and Distribution Award 2020 instead. Some sites use an enterprise agreement that replaces the award rates, in which case the enterprise agreement rates apply.
How is overtime calculated on a warehouse payslip?
Under the Storage Services and Wholesale Award, overtime for full-time and part-time employees is generally paid at 150% of the base rate for the first two or three hours (depending on the day) and 200% after that, with different rules again for work on a rostered day off. Casual employees have overtime calculated on their loaded rate, not the base rate. The exact trigger point and multiplier depend on the classification and the day of the week, so always check the current award before relying on a fixed formula.
What is shift loading and how does it apply to warehouse and logistics staff?
Shift loading is an additional percentage paid on top of the base rate for working outside standard daytime hours. Under the Storage Services and Wholesale Award, afternoon and night shift workers typically receive a loading in the range of 15% to 30% depending on the shift pattern and whether it is a permanent or rotating roster. The loading must appear as its own line on the payslip, separate from the base rate and from any overtime paid on top of it.
What allowances commonly appear on a warehouse or logistics payslip?
Common allowances include a forklift or high-reach licence allowance, a cold storage or freezer allowance for staff working in temperature-controlled areas, a leading hand or supervisor allowance, meal allowances for extended shifts or overtime, and travel or vehicle allowances for delivery drivers. Each allowance should be listed as a separate line with its own dollar amount rather than folded into the base rate.
Do casual warehouse workers get superannuation?
Yes. Casual employees are entitled to superannuation at the same rate as permanent staff, currently 11.5% of ordinary time earnings for the 2025–26 financial year, rising to 12% from 1 July 2026. Ordinary time earnings includes the casual loading, so super should be calculated on the loaded rate, not the bare base rate.
Can I use a warehouse payslip for a home loan or rental application?
Most lenders and property managers ask for your two or three most recent payslips along with bank statements. Casual or agency warehouse workers may also need to show a longer earnings history or an employment letter confirming ongoing engagement, since lenders average casual income across several pay periods rather than relying on a single payslip.
What must a warehouse employer include on every payslip?
Fair Work Regulations 2009 (regulation 3.46) requires the employer name and ABN, employee name, pay period dates, payment date, gross and net pay, the base rate and hours worked, any loadings, allowances and overtime shown separately, tax withheld, and the superannuation fund name and contribution amount. This applies to every warehouse and logistics employer in the national system, regardless of size.
How long does an employer have to issue a payslip after paying a warehouse worker?
Under section 536 of the Fair Work Act 2009, the payslip must be given within one working day of payment, whether printed or emailed. This deadline is the same for casual shift workers as it is for full-time warehouse supervisors.
What should I do if my warehouse payslip is missing overtime or shift loading?
First, check your roster and timesheet against the payslip to confirm exactly which hours were ordinary, overtime or shift-loaded. If the payslip doesn't match, raise it with payroll or your manager in writing. If the issue isn't resolved, the Fair Work Ombudsman can be contacted on 13 13 94 for a free wage enquiry.
